# 1mail.dev > Public, inbound-only disposable email at @1mail.dev: no signup, no keys, no sending. Any syntactically valid local part is an inbox; anyone who knows the address can read it. Read via three GET endpoints, a remote MCP server, a curl-installable CLI, or the web viewer. Messages expire after 24 hours; a busy inbox caps at 2,000 messages. Built for automated tests and AI agents that need to receive mail (verification codes, signup links, notifications). There is no privacy: treat every inbox as a public noticeboard. If you wouldn't pin the content to a noticeboard, don't send it here. Quick facts: - Base URL `https://api.1mail.dev/v1`: read-only, zero-auth; errors are RFC 9457 problem+json. - Machine-readable contract: OpenAPI 3.1 at `https://api.1mail.dev/openapi.json` (generate clients and types from it). - List messages: `GET /v1/inboxes/{address}/messages`, newest first. `limit` (default 100, max 1000), `since_id` poll cursor, `older_than_id` to page back, `wait=20000` to hold the call for mail instead of polling (0..30000 ms; a held call counts as one read). - One message: `GET /v1/inboxes/{address}/messages/{id}`. Parsed text, unsanitized html (treat as untrusted), curated headers, attachment metadata. - Raw message: `GET /v1/inboxes/{address}/messages/{id}/raw`. The original bytes. - Polling: the strong ETag is the newest message id. Send `If-None-Match` and an unchanged poll answers 304 in one indexed read. Poll at most every 2 s. - Rate limits: 60 reads/min per inbox, 600 reads/min per IP. - Addresses: `@1mail.dev`. The CLI's default twelve-character random local part carries ~60 bits of randomness: unguessable in practice, but whoever knows it can read the mail. ## Docs - [Docs overview](https://1mail.dev/docs): every surface at a glance — the API, MCP, the 1mail CLI, and the published limits. - [API reference](https://1mail.dev/docs/api): the three GET endpoints, RFC 9457 errors, and the recommended wait-vs-poll cadence. - [MCP](https://1mail.dev/docs/mcp): setup guides for the [remote MCP server](https://api.1mail.dev/mcp) — the same reads as the API, as tools, no keys, no SDK. - [1mail CLI](https://1mail.dev/docs/cli): the `1mail` CLI, installed with `curl -fsSL https://1mail.dev/install.sh | bash`. - [Limits](https://1mail.dev/docs/limits): published rate limits, message size, retention, and the inbox cap. - [Terms](https://1mail.dev/terms): retention tiers, the no-privacy model, and abuse/takedown contacts. ## Web - [Inbox viewer](https://1mail.dev/inbox/test-runner-42): read any inbox in a browser at `https://1mail.dev/inbox/`. - [Homepage](https://1mail.dev/): what 1mail.dev is and how it compares. ## Feedback - Bugs, mail that never arrived, and feature ideas: [GitHub issues](https://github.com/1maildev/1maildev/issues) in the public [1maildev/1maildev](https://github.com/1maildev/1maildev) repo; email contact@1mail.dev; X [@1maildev](https://x.com/1maildev).
