The fine print

Terms, acceptable use & data

1mail is a town square. Anything sent here is out in the open. This page says what you can do with the service, what we keep, and for how long.

Every inbox at 1mail.dev is public. Anyone who knows the address can read it. Never use these addresses for anything sensitive — or any account you care about.

The deal

1mail.dev is a free, public, inbound-only disposable email service for developers, testers and AI agents. It is built and operated by Appy Place New Zealand Limited.

Any valid address at 1mail.dev receives mail. There is no signup.

Inboxes are public. Anyone who knows an address can read its mail, here or through the API. There are no passwords and no private inboxes.

Treat 1mail like a town square. Don't expect privacy for anything sent here — if you wouldn't pin it to a noticeboard, don't send it to 1mail.

By using 1mail.dev, on the site or through the API, you agree to these terms.

Acceptable use

1mail only receives mail. It never sends.

Don't use a 1mail.dev address for anything sensitive, or for any account you care about: anyone can read the mail, messages are deleted after 24 hours, and busy inboxes drop their oldest messages once they pass 2,000.

Don't use 1mail to commit fraud, to harass anyone, or to receive mail you have no right to receive.

We may block senders or addresses that abuse the service. Report abuse or send takedown requests to abuse@1mail.dev.

Data we keep, and for how long

DataHow long we keep it
Message content (mail and bodies)24 hours, then deleted automatically
Delivery forensics (structured logs)7 days
Traffic metadata (abuse ledger: sender domain, recipient local part, size, verdict)About 3 months. Never public. Never contains message content.
Operational audit log (sender address, recipient local part, arrival time, size, message IDs)12 months, then deleted automatically. Operator-only. Never public. Never contains message content.
Aggregates31 days to 3 months

While a message is held it is public: anyone can read it, copy it or save it — for up to 24 hours. Deleting it on our side does not delete the copies other people have made.

How we use data

We use the traffic metadata, the operational audit log and the aggregates in the table above to run, secure and improve the service — and to analyse them and train models on them.

None of these contain message content. We do not keep message content beyond 24 hours (when a busy inbox drops its oldest message, its bytes are reclaimed within a further day).

Message content is read by a model, run by our hosting provider, to label each message — its kind, and any code or link it contains. The label is shown with the message and deleted with it. Content is not used to train anything.

Processors

We use third-party providers for hosting and delivery, error tracking, and traffic measurement. Error reports may include fragments of a message. None of them receive message content for any other purpose.

No warranty

The service is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind. It may be slow, rate-limited or down. Mail may be dropped before you read it — nothing here is an archive. Don't build anything on 1mail.dev that must not break.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, Appy Place New Zealand Limited is not liable for any loss caused by the service or by mail you did not receive in time — including lost data, revenue or profits. Where the law requires a limit instead of an exclusion, the total liability of Appy Place New Zealand Limited for all claims is NZ$20. Nothing here limits any right you have under New Zealand law that cannot be limited.

Governing law

These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and the courts of New Zealand handle any dispute under them.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms as the service changes. The current version always lives at this page, and the date at the top shows when it last changed. If you keep using 1mail.dev after a change, the new terms apply to you.
